The study of history is the endeavor to understand what has been. To understand those things, we have to delve into many different areas of study, and not just the dusty lists of facts and events.  Knowing how and why things have happened is just as important as knowing that they happened.  And sometimes, those things require studying things we normally wouldn’t associate with traditional “history”.

 

For example, studying the ancient pyramids of Egypt shouldn’t be limited to their location, size, and age. Instead, to put them into proper cultural context, we must understand the nature of Heka… ancient Egyptian sympathetic magic. So down the rabbit hole you go, learning about things you never dreamed were related… but were absolutely necessary to be properly informed on a subject that once was.
